Fun scary movies!! If you like that sort of thing.
I’m participating in the Movie Madness Carnival over at Daily Mish Mash, so if you enjoy reading movie-related stuff (which I obviously do), pop on over and check out the other participants.
I’ve mentioned before that I love scary movies. Here are a few of my favorites (I always try to avoid spoilers but proceed at your own risk):
The Shining. This one is a classic (the one starring Jack Nicholson, NOT the terrible mini-series with Steven Weber which is total crap), and personally I think that everyone should see it at least once! It has the creep factor going for it more than anything else. There are a few gory scenes but they are very brief. And the end will leave you wondering what just happened…
The Sixth Sense. I mentioned this one already over on my favorite movies post, but I figured it fit into this genre so here it is again. A very awesome, novel approach. This is the movie that made M. Night Shyamalan a big name and it is easy to see why.
The Exorcist. Um, hello? I believe most people agree that this is one of the Scariest Movies Ever. My sister won’t even watch it, the concept terrifies her so. And I have to agree – anything that involves the devil in this regard tends to be rather…disturbing. And so it is. Particularly the scene with the crucifix. If you have seen it, you know what I’m talking about.
The Ring. Okay, I’ll admit it. This movie scared the everliving shit out of me, okay? I don’t know exactly why I find it so terrifying – maybe the fact that THIS COULD HAPPEN TO ME because I own a VCR, a phone and a TV. And the girl comes out of the TV and she walks all jerky and you can’t see her face and she’s going to kill you and GAH GAH GAAAAAAAAAH.
The Frighteners. Not exactly a classic, and I am probably one of the few people who actually enjoy it but I am always excited when I run across it on TV. I don’t think it is a true horror/thriller like these others because there is quite a bit of comedy and the overall feel isn’t nearly as dark. Still, I think it is a lot of fun. I do have one question, though: what is up with Jake Busey’s teeth? Their fakeness scares me more than anything else in the entire movie.
Halloween. Now THIS is a classic. Like The Shining we’re mostly dealing with Creep Factor here. The music definitely adds to the suspense along with that mask that the adult Michael Myers wears. Did you know that mask was a spray-painted Captain Kirk mask found in a costume store? Well, it was.
What scary movies do you love?

That IS a fun fact about the Halloweenn mask!
I remember one of the first scary movies I ever watched was Children of the Corn. I can STILL remember how scared I was.

GAHHHHHHHHH.
I am still scared of “The Ring” to this day. SHE COMES OUT OF THE TV! gah gah gah gah
And I got a migraine during “The Frighteners” and missed the ending. Still haven’t seen how it ends, 10 years later.

I have to agree with Tessie… Children of the Corn is just plain frightening!! I have to admit that The Grudge scares me. Not so much the actual movie, but the voice of the little boy in the movie. UUUUUUGGGGGG…. creepy!!! My husband likes to do the voice just to freak me out; I hate my husband!!!!!

My husband will not watch the ring ever again. And cannot have static on the TV. The day he saw the movie, I had a bridal shower at which I was given a blanket that his great grandmother had knitted for us. Except she died before she had an occasion to give it to us. And she had been dead for probably 2 or 3 years at that point. And he comes home from scary ass movie and I say “Guess what Gigi gave us?”

The Ring is terrifying. I can’t even think about it without getting creeped out! I don’t think I’ve ever seen The Exorcist or Halloween all the way through. I’ll have to check them out when I’m in the mood for a horror film.
Thanks for participating! I just added your link!

Ohh, Emily, that noise in The Grudge IS scary. It’s super-fun to walk up behind my sister and make it. Especially at night.

Haha, laugh it up. So I get scared easily. I might as well go ahead and bring up the time I jetted into the house without even looking back when you and Nicholas drove up the driveway that time & honked- you all had such a good laugh. I felt that anecdote was forthcoming, so now I have beaten you to the punch! Take that!

Oh, man, I agree with almost everyone on your list.
The one that still gets me to this day is The Ring and The Blair Witch Project. On the Blair Witch Project, I was 8 months pregnant when I saw it and I had nightmares for weeks. I kept thinking the Blair Witch was gonna lure my kid away from me as soon as she was able to walk. What scared me so much about that movie was that they never showed the Blair Witch, just those little kids handprints on the wall.
Poltergeist got me too. I can’t stand marionettes or spiders now because of that damn movie. I also hate walking across the lawn at night by myself.
Shudder….

I’m kind of a pansy…not real crazy about scary movies. However, I did enjoy The Sixth Sense.

Sorry but I can’t do scary movies. My older kid’s love them. I was passing the room where they were watching one of the Saw movies and had to go where I couldn’t hear it. Too scary for me.

I enjoy scary movies but not gory, horror movies. I have enjoyed The Shining and The Sixth Sense but the others you listed I’m not sure I can handle. I do enjoy almost everything from M. Night
