I don’t think you’re required to reciprocate about her son. Unless that’s what she was hoping you would do, which is sad, because that means she was complimenting your son JUST to get one in return.
If I couldn’t have remembered her kid’s name, I’d probably fake it by saying, “How about that homer from yours, huh? That thing was out of there!”
I also suck at small talk with other Moms. I just…uh…wait…you were watching my kid enough to compliment him? And I completely ignored your kid because I was trying to keep an eye on mine, or possibly because I’m anitsocial to begin with?
