His fear of water in his eyes has thankfully diminished, though. Has your son had any swimming lessons? This helped my son get over the whole water in the eye thing. He put his face in the water for the instructor. He would never have done that for us. Ever.
Good luck and know you are not alone.

Most kids do know how to get under their parents’ skin and at some point he’s not doing it because he feels you’re so mean, but because he knows he can get a reaction out of you and it’s a game. Just take heart that it was a misunderstanding, and try not to let him get to you – you did what any mom would do if they thought their kid had soap in his eye.

Wed, 13 Aug 2008 14:21:32 +0000http://www.nonsoccermom.com/?p=280#comment-2021I remember having that same fear of getting water in my eyes. And I think I probably would’ve overreacted the same way. The only thing that helped was having a washcloth to put over my eyes whenever my parents rinsed my hair.
I’m sure AE was just overly concerned about the water and didn’t care about the reasons why water was in his eye, just that he didn’t WANT it in his eye. 🙂 Hopefully he understands it was an accident.
