My high school girlfriends came to visit this past weekend (brief tangent:  am I the only one who has trouble with this?  Last weekend, to me, implies the weekend before the most recently past weekend, so I always feel the need to clarify.  No?  Am I just nuts?  Moving on.) and we went to the local winery.  I have lived here for about seven years, including college, and I had never even been out there to take the tour and visit the wine bar.  For someone who enjoys wine as much as I do, this is an abomination!  Anyhow, we had a blast (as always), and I discovered a type of wine that may be my new favorite – Gewürztraminer.  Pictures (credit goes to my friend Allyson as I forgot my camera):

Here is one of us after the tour, with our semi-drunk guide.  He’d been giving tours all day and apparently felt the need to do the wine tasting with each group.  Consequently, he was feeling pretty good by the 4 p.m. tour!

And I just had to put in this next photo because GOOD GOD.  Do I look like an Amazon woman or what?  I am tall but I swear, not abnormally so (see above) and perspective was doing some funky shit here.  Also, the two girlfriends standing closest to me are exceedingly petite so that doesn’t help.  Either way, YIKES.  After seeing this photo, I told the girls that it is awfully nice of them to agree to go out in public with a gargantuan freak like me!!

We managed to somehow become the stars of the show, as usual, and consequently were chosen as a group to learn how to “cluck” when tasting red wine.  That’s what we’re attempting to do in that photo – AFTER the tour guide attempted to get us to do the chicken dance, that is.  I’m sure the rest of the tour group probably thought we were crazy (and a little obnoxious), but this is what happens every time we get together.  We’ve been making public spectacles of ourselves for the last 15 years, since we all bonded during that summer school health class.  I think we may have driven that teacher to drink, and he was undoubtedly the first of many.  Ah, well.  Some things never change.
