Miss T seems to be mostly over her bout of tonsillitis.  She still has this pitiful-sounding cough that she busts out every so often, but that seems to be mostly for effect.  Her appetite is better, she’s sleeping marginally better, and she is certainly far less cranky.  Oh, and the blazing fever is gone too so that’s a definite plus.

She didn’t let being sick stop her from yet another development – she is now pulling up to standing.  On everything.  Which means she pulls up in her crib constantly, but since she can’t yet figure out how to get down this presents a problem.  Translating to tons of fun in the middle of the night for Mom.  I think I went in and rescued her at least 5 times last night.

By all reports, AE is having a fabulous time with the grandparents.  He’s at my in-laws’ house this week, and they just purchased a Wii so I think that’s probably all I need to say about that.

Apparently our next-door neighbor had a gas line break in her yard yesterday.  Miss T and I went out for a walk around 3 p.m. (yes, during the hottest part of the day in Central Texas in July, clearly I am not very smart) and I could smell gas.  I figured if I still smelled it when we got back that I would call the gas company.  Well, no need, because by the time we returned there were two Atmos Energy trucks parked in front of my house.  The smell had become almost overwhelming at that point, and I wondered why there wasn’t anyone going door to door to tell us not to light the grill or something.  You know?  At any rate, once I saw a big truck pull up with a backhoe in tow, I figured that this was Not Good.  And sure enough, our poor neighbor had her backyard dug all to hell.  Thank goodness it wasn’t us, is all I’m saying.

N went into the office for quite awhile last night, so I was left to my own devices after getting Miss T to bed.  I decided to sit down and watch CloverfieldAs I mentioned before, I wasn’t sure that I would like it because I’m not much on movies where the camera is bouncing around everywhere.  For some reason it didn’t really bother me in this context, though.  Maybe because it was consistently filmed as if from a home video camera, so there wasn’t switching back and forth between still and shaky?  I don’t know.  Anyway, I really did like it, quite a bit more than I expected to.  It is reminiscent of The Blair Witch Project, but much better done.  Less lame, more scary.  There were some truly terrifying moments, and it kept me engaged the entire time.  Well, except for the party scene at the beginning where there wasn’t much going on.  They could have cut a few minutes out there, but the movie was barely 1.5 hours as it was so I guess they couldn’t afford to take any more out.  ANYHOW, I give it a thumbs up for creativity and entertaining action.  Worth the watch.

I was watching Family Matters in the wee hours (between standing-baby rescue efforts) last night, and is there anything more stupid in the history of television than Urkelbot?  I think not.

I have decided that I am in the market for an iPod Nano.  Probably I am one of the few people on earth who does not yet possess one, as I am always behind the times with such things, but oh well.  See, I was thinking that they were just MP3 players and were really only good for music.  Since I don’t really listen to music outside of my car this isn’t really something I need.  But now that I know you can download movies and TV shows, I am all over that and NEED ONE RIGHT NOW.  I’m having a hard time not going to Sam’s Club right this minute and buying one.  I need to at least pretend it isn’t an impulse buy.  (Hello, loving husband!  I am thinking this through!  Not like usual!)  I do really think I would use it.  I am one of those people who never has anything available to do when suddenly called upon to wait.  I never remember to take a book with me, even when I know waiting may be involved (like at the doctor’s office, DMV, airport, that sort of thing).  It would be really nice to just pull the iPod out of my purse and have a movie at the ready.

I got called for jury duty!  I am actually quite excited about this.  I have only received a notice once before and I was in college so I got out of it.  Finally my county of residence has decided to take advantage of my status as a tax-paying non-felon.  (I assume these would be the major qualifications, but seeing as I have never been before obviously I don’t know the process.  Am a jury duty virgin!)  And unlike some people, I will be very disappointed if I do not have to report on July 29.

Better rethink your excitement about jury duty. What if you get picked and the trial goes into the first week of August?? San Antonio trip–remember??

I just saw an episode where Urkel and Carl go on American Gladiators… and tie at the end.

I have a feeling that Family Matters being on Nick-at-Nite might lower my IQ.

My only problem the last time I had jury duty was that I worked for a stingy (stin-gee, stingy looks like…bees are stingy) company who did not pay me while I was there…for FOUR days! But seeing the system at work and the experience was something I think everyone should have.

You MUST get an iPod. YOU WILL LOVE IT. Actually, I’ve been thinking about getting a shuffle for walking. I take my video iPod (which is awesome because I can watch The West Wing while exercising-squeeeeee!), but it’s kinda big. A Nano would be great, though, because I can still watch my videos. Something to think about…
